When the Phantom showed himself, in all his faults, he took away that loving father figure that Christine had come to depend on. Then, all of the sudden, he came into her life for the first time, but it completely changed who he was to her. She grew attached to having him there, and she felt a strong bond with him. In all the time that her Angel of Music was whispering to her behind the walls, teaching her how to sing, and guiding her through life in the Opera house, she saw him as a father figure. I think also though, she's singing to the Phantom. She's wishing he were still there to provide her love and guidance. On the surface, Christine is singing to her father. Around the second or third time I was watching Phantom though, I suddenly thought that the song has a double meaning. ever since I sang it in high school, long before I'd ever seen the show. Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again has always been one of my favorite songs from the Phantom.
